Maybelline Superstay 24hr Foundation Review

Sunday 29 September 2013

Hello everyone! I hope you're all well. I've been searching for a new foundation for a while and after reading many reviews on different products and having a little chat with other beauty bloggers on twitter, I finally came to a decision and chose the Maybelline Superstay 24hr foundation.

Firstly, I'd like to mention that I have oily skin, blemish-prone skin. So for me I need a foundation that has medium to full coverage and has a matte or semi matte finish.
After reading so many reviews about how great the coverage and finish of this product was I had to try it out for myself and they weren't wrong!
I chose the lightest shade from the range which is Light Beige. It is however a bit too dark for me but once I've blended it in, it isn't noticeable. It has a neutral undertone which works perfectly for my skintone, but I'd say it would suit people with a warmer tone better.
This foundation has medium, yet buildable coverage, it can't be built up to complete full coverage but it does cover up any redness or small blemishes that I may have. It's easy to blend because it has a light consistency even though it's a higher coverage foundation.
It leaves a semi-matte finish, which I prefer for my oily skin. If you have dry skin, I'd steer clear of this because it will cling to any dry patches on your face. It doesn't last 24 hours (not that anyone would wear foundation for that long anyway) but it does last about 5-6 hours on my skin before I start to look shiny.
It can be purchased for £8.99 from Boots.

Mini Haul- Boots, Bodycare and Home Bargains

Wednesday 25 September 2013

Hello everyone! Recently my first student loan came through and I went on a little spending spree but don't worry these were essentials that had ran out that I need to repurchase. I'm being very careful with my money, luckily I'm not an impulse buyer! I made a trip to Boots, Bodycare and Home Bargains to pick up what I needed.

Top Row: Gillette Satin Care shaving gel, Clean and Clear advantage clear and soothe foaming wash, Boots Simply Sensitive refreshing facial toner, Batiste dry shampoo, Garnier Intensive 7 day body lotion
Middle Row: Nair hair removal cream, Boots tea tree and witch hazel night treatment gel, Simple Kind To Eyes eye makeup remover
Bottom Row: Boots Botanics Mattifying day cream, Pretty perfect twist and out instant nail polish remover

This pair is essential for me because I hate feeling or looking hairy, it's just gross!  I purchased the shaving gel from Home Bargains for £1.99. I purchased the hair removal cream from Bodycare for £0.99.

I've already reviewed this body lotion (Review Here) but in a different scent. I really enjoyed using it, so I repurchased it. I purchased it from Home Bargains for £1.99.

Can never go wrong with some dry shampoo, this is essential for me when I don't wash my hair because it stops it looking greasy and horrible and it adds some volume too (bonus). Tropical is also my favourite scent, I purchased it from Boots for £2.99.

I needed some nail polish remover and I noticed this in Bodycare and it reminded me of a smaller and cheaper version of Bourjois' nail polish remover. For only £0.99 I thought I'd give it a go.

Finally I stopped of at Boots to revamp my skincare routine. I picked up the new Clean and Clear foaming face wash for £3.32 (it was on offer, real price £4.99) because I need a new cleanser and my skin isn't too problematic at the moment, so I thought I'd give it a go.
The Boots Simply Sensitive toner and Simple eye makeup remover are repurchases. The toner cost £1.79 (rrp £2.69) and I brought the eyemakeup remover from Bodycare for £2.19.
I needed a new moisturiser  and I've heard good things about the Boots Botanics mattifying day cream for £3.32 (rrp £4.99) and finally I picked up the Boots Tea Tree and Witch Hazel night treatment gel as my night time moisturiser for £2.99.
Have you made any cheeky purchases this week?

NOTW: Maybelline Color Show Nail Polish- Urban Coral

Sunday 22 September 2013

Hello everyone! I hope you're all well. I have a quick little update before I carry on with this blog post. I have now officially started university! Exciting times indeed, but with my staggered timetable my posts may become more sporadic ( i hope this wont be a problem) I'll try and stick to my regular posting on wednesdays and sundays as best I can. I hope everyone else who's started university is having a great time too. Anyway, I have another NOTW post for you and I've been transitioning into my autumn nail colours but at the same time I love my summer brights. However, I think the Maybelline Color Show nail polish in urban coral meets some were in the middle.

This shade is a bright red-toned coral that I think is bright enough to wear in the summer but also dark enough that it can be worn all year round. I also think it's a pleasant change from a classic red nail (which I'm not a massive fan of).
As for the longevity of this polish it lasts the same as the other ones I own from the range.
It's an affordable polish costing only £2.99. I'm definately going to be buying more of these polishes. I currently have my eye on the shade called Moss.

Beauty Formulas Tea Tree Deep Cleansing Facial Mask Review

Wednesday 18 September 2013

Hello everyone! I hope you're all well. I don't know about you but I love a good face mask once or twice a week. They provide a great pick me up for the skin and help to cleanse and treat any problems with your skin. My favourite masks are clay-based masks, they work perfectly for my oily and acne-prone skin by drawing out impurities and reducing shine.
I've currently been using the Beauty Formulas Tea Tree Deep Cleansing Facial Mask and it's a great bargain!

For those of you who read my BodyCare haul post (Link Here) you'll know I purchased this product for a mere £1! What a bargain! This is definately a cheap and cheerful product.
The packaging is a 100ml tube with a matte texture (if that makes sense) which means it is prone to getting dirty easily, like NARS or Sleek products.
It claims to "draw out impurities, unblock pores, absorb and remove excess oil, grease and dirt. Soothes and calms blemish prone skin." It also claims to work in only 3 minutes.
I did try out this mask for 3 minutes and it did leave my skin feeling soft and smooth but I'd recommend leaving it on for more like 5-6 minutes to get better results. You'll know when the mask is set because it seperates around the porous areas of the face. It also makes you look like a pastel version of Shrek.
It smells strongly of tea tree, so if your not a fan of that smell you will not like this but for me I do like it, it smells fresh and clean.
I've been using this mask for almost a month and I'm really enjoying using it. It has helped reduce the redness and size of my spots. My face is also less oily and my pores have also reduced in size.
This brand also has a moisturising cucumber mask which I think will be good to try out during the colder months. If you can get your hands on any Beauty Formulas products I'd recommend giving them a go.
I'd probably repurchase this mask but I'm always open to trying out others as well.

Maybelline 24HR Colour Tattoo: Permanent Taupe Review

Sunday 15 September 2013

Hello everyone! Well I'm definately late on the bandwagon with this one, so late in fact the wagon decide to roll down the hill and leave without me! The maybelline 24hr colour tattoos had so much hype surrounding them a year or two ago that I actually got put off trying them out. I'm always skeptical around hyped up products because I have such high expectations and when the product doesn't live up to them I'm left feeling disappointed and out of pocket, I'm looking at you Rimmel Stay Matte Powder (Review Here). However, these really do deserve the hype.

I picked this up when I was shopping for a new foundation (review coming soon) and Boots were having a 3 for 2 offer so picked this along with a foundation and nail polish. I was undecided between the colour pink gold or this one. But I chose permanent taupe because I noticed someone decided to be gross and swatch a brand new pink gold rather than use the tester. I think this colour will be great for autumn and winter makeup though.
I've been wearing this colour everyday by placing it all over the eyelid and blending it out through the crease to create a suitable smoked out look. Without a primer this lasts about 5 hours on my eyes, so I do have to wear a primer underneath to make it last.
It blends out easily and has a nice smooth consistency.
The packaging is simple, sleek and sturdy. I like the glass jar it comes in, mainly because the sound of opening and closing the jar is so satisfying to hear ( you know it's a great sound). It also means it wont break and spill out all over my makeup.
I highly recommend trying these out if you haven't already.
They can be purchased from Boots or Superdrug for £4.99.

Simple Kind To Eyes Eye Makeup Remover Review

Wednesday 11 September 2013

Hello everyone! As you all know from my BodyCare Haul- Link Here a lot of the products that i purchased I said I would have reviews for them and this is no exception. I purchased the Simple Kind Eyes eye makeup remover because I wanted to try something new and I'd never used a water-like/water-based eye makeup remover before, in the past I'd always use cream or gel based eye makeup removers.

Firstly I really like the packaging, it's sturdy practical and well simple.
Simple claim that " Our Eye Make-up Remover is a perfect blend of active ingredients to effectively remove even waterproof mascara." It contains Pro-Vitamin B5 which actively restores, softens and smoothes. It contains no oil and doesn't leave a greasy residue, there's no perfume or colour and it's dermatologically tested and approved.
This eye makeup remover is great! It removes all my eye makeup with one cotton pad and one cotton bud. I can't say anything about the removing waterproof mascara claim because I don't wear waterproof mascara but it does get regular mascara off easily.
The water-like consistency feels light and refreshing. When i first used it, it made my eyes sting a little bit but that's because I used too much, but i washed my eyes with lukewarm water and they were fine.
It doesn't leave a greasy residue as it claims, which is why i prefer it over the Boots cucumber eye makeup remover ( Review Here) which unfortunately did leave a slight film over the skin around my eyes.
Overall this is a bragain product, which I will definately repurchase when it runs out. If you haven't tried it yet I highly recommend you do.
It can be purchased from Boots for £3.39

Collection No Clumps Mascara Review

Sunday 8 September 2013

Hello everyone! I hope you're all well and to those who've gone back to school i hope you had a good first week back. My W7 mascara ( Review Here) was pretty much on it's last legs and last week while shopping in Boots I noticed that Collection were having an offer on some of their products and the No Clumps mascara was one of them and for only £2.50 I thought I'd give it a go.

(The end result after two coats)

The bright red packaging was the first thing to catch my eye, it definately stands out in my makeup bag! The tube is also very thin compared to many other mascaras that I've tried, making it less bulky and light-weight.
When i first opened the tube and saw the wand it was plastic and packed full of product which made me a bit sceptical  about it's no clumps claims. However it combed through my lashes easily and separated them nicely making them more defined.
The formula has a great consistency, it's not too wet or too dry.
This mascara is perfect for everyday, to give your lashes definition, length and it holds a curl too.
The no clumps claim is true until 3+ coats, by the third coat my lashes are noticeably more clumpy.
This mascara makes my lashes look great all day. It doesn't smudge or flake, however the first time i used it, it did smudge slightly after about 6 hours but once it dries up a little it works fine.
It can be purchased from Boots or Superdrug for £2.99.

Beauty Formulas Blackhead Control Facial Scrub Review

Wednesday 4 September 2013

Hello everyone! A few weeks ago I purchased a new facial cleanser/ wash because not only had i ran out of my Boots Facial Scrub (Link Here)  but my skin had grown accustom to it and it no longer benefited my skin. I picked up the Beauty Formulas Facial Scrub when i was in Bodycare because it was targeted at combination and oily skin, which is the skin type I have and it sounded very promising.

I definately prefer this scrub over the Boots one, it made my skin look and feel a lot softer and smoother.
The granules/ beads are finer than the Boots face scrub (so fine they're hardly noticeable in the picture above) which allows me to get into the nooks and crannies of my face (that sounds so weird), the finer beads also make the scrub less abrasive. I have noticed that since using this scrub twice a day my pores have become less noticeable around my nose.
It contains Salicylic Acid which works perfectly for clearing up the breakouts on my face and unclogging my pores.
It has a minty scent which i find refreshing and although it is scented it doesn't irritate my sensitive skin.
I've been using this for almost a month and i have over half of it left because a little goes a long way.
This combined with the face mask i purchased (review coming soon) are definately improving the condition of my skin. For £1, well 99p it is very good face scrub.
So far it's working very well for me but I'll just have to see how long the benefits last.
If you can get your hands on some of the Beauty Formulas products I'd highly recommend trying them out.

Have you tried and Beauty Formulas products yet?

NOTW: Maybelline Color Show Nail Polish- Cool Blue

Sunday 1 September 2013

Hello everyone! I have another NOTW post for you because i can't help trying out every new nail polish that i own. Last week I mentioned I had another Maybelline Color Show nail polish and i couldn't help but try it out.

Yet again, it's another summer shade (not that the season should dictate what nail polish you wear), it's a bright sky blue colour, which looks great if you have a tan. Even though this would be considered a summer nail polish I'd wear it all year round because it's so pretty.
It did chip after the first two days of wearing it, as always i just covered it up with another coat of polish. It dried fairly quickly and only required two coats to become opaque.
I'd recommend snatching this colour up if you are a fan of bright pastel shades.
These polishes can be purchased for £2.99 from Boots.

Have you tried any of these polishes yet?
Thank you for stopping by!
