NOTW: Seventeen Gel Nail Polish- Azure Amore

Sunday, 26 January 2014

Hello everyone! I hope you're all well. I discovered a new nail polish range from Seventeen last week when I went into Boots to pick a package. All the colours were very pretty but the shade Azure Amore stood out to me because I don't have any colour like it in my nail polish collection.

(The top image isn't showing the true colour very well but the bottom two are a better colour reference)

This nail polish is a gorgeous bright, periwinkle colour with a slight purple under tone. I think it's the perfect polish for spring and summer and will look great if you have a tan.
Seventeen claim it lasts up to 8 days. It doesn't last that long but on my nails it lasted about 6 days before I started to see some chips.
The formula is amazing and comparable to the Barry M gel nail polishes. The brush with this polish is quite large so you can cover your nail evenly with just 1-2 swipes. You do need two coats to get an opaque colour and it leaves a nice glossy shine on your nails, you could go without a top coat but I prefer to play it safe and use one anyway.
I want to try the nude shade from this range, I think it will be perfect for spring. You can purchase these polishes from Boots for £3.99.

Have you tried any of the Seventeen Gel Nail Polishes?

Current Skincare Savoir: Soap and Glory The Fab Pore 2 in 1 Peel and Mask

Wednesday, 22 January 2014

Hello everyone! Lately my skin has been going crazy and breaking out all over the place. I've recently switched up my cleansing routine (Post Here ) but my skin has being lacking a treatment or two. I received the Soap and Glory The Fab Pore mask for Christmas and have been using it ever since.

As with all Soap and Glory products the packaging has had a makeover and I like how they've matched the font colour with the mask colour (it's probably a novel thing to like but it made me happy). I don't mind the pot but it is less hygienic than a tube or bottle.
The consistency of the product is thick yet it is easy to work into the skin. It glides easily onto the skin and only a small amount of product is needed ( I use a little less than a 10p sized amount) to cover all of my face. As you work the product into the skin I've noticed that it starts to thicken and become more clay-like in texture. The exfoliating beads are large enough to work into the skin and clean out my pores without being abrasive. I like leaving the mask on while I'm having a bath, you can leave it on for just 5 minutes but I prefer to leave it on longer. After using this mask my skin always feels soft and smooth. I've been using this mask twice a week and I've noticed my pores are getting smaller and I have less open pores than before.
The one thing I don't like about this mask is the smell, I can't describe it but I just don't find it very pleasant. Other than that it's a fantastic product.
I highly recommend it if you have congested skin and are looking to make it smoother and brighter.
This product can be purchased from Boots for £10 .

NOTW: Seventeen Nail Polish- Moonstruck

Sunday, 19 January 2014

Hello everyone! It's another nail polish post this week. I've been trying out more nail polish from a Seventeen gift set and thought I'd share my thoughts with you.

I have to say I am left disappointed again after using this polish. It didn't chip as quickly as my previous nail polish but the formula isn't very good. The polish was streaky after each coat, no matter how smoothly I applied it. The polish was also gloopy and hard to work with.
Maybe polishes in sets just don't work as well as individual ones. I hope some of the other polishes in the set are better but I'll let you know once I try them out.

What nail polish have you tried this week?

The Double Cleanse

Wednesday, 15 January 2014

Hello everyone! I recently changed up my skincare routine because the cold weather has been wreaking havoc on my skin. For a very long time I have used face wipes to take off the bulk of my face makeup, I can already hear the gasps of horror. I never really understood the point of hot cloth cleansers and well cleansers in general. I've tried a few cream cleansers from various brands and felt they never really shifted my makeup. I received the Ultimelt hot cloth cleanser from Soap and Glory for Christmas along with the For Daily Youth face wash. This combination of products has definatley changed my skin for the better and no more face wipes for me!

Recently Soap and Glory's packaging had a makeover and although I loved their previous retro style packaging, the new sleek and simple re-vamp looks very classy. I like how they've kept some of the vintage touches on the outer packaging.
I didn't feature the muslin cloth in the pictures because it's filthy and needs to be washed (gross).
I was skeptical about the cleanser and it's ability to get all my makeup off but when I first used it on Christmas day I was amazed! It removed almost all of my makeup except for some stubborn bits of mascara but that was sorted out with a bit of eye makeup remover.
The consistency of the cleanser is thick and creamy but not heavy on the skin. It glides on smoothly and the essential oils make it easy to rub on the skin. It smells okay it's not too overwhelming and it doesn't irritate my sensitive skin. The muslin cloth is exfoliating without being too harsh and it helps to remove all of my makeup. It costs £10 from Boots and I would definately repurchase it again but I do want to try some other hot cloth cleansers that are on the market. I have my eye on the Superdrug one.
Now on to the second step of my cleansing routine, I also received the For Daily Youth face wash for Christmas and luckily I had just ran out of face wash so it gave me an excuse to try something new. I really like this face wash, it exfoliates my skin gently so I can use it everyday because the exfoliating beads are small without being abrasive, it lathers up nicely and has a pleasant, sweet scent. I haven't broken out so far using this but I haven't noticed a massive reduction in breakouts but my breakouts are less dry and flaky since using this. If you have normal to dry skin this will probably suit you. Once this runs out I'm considering trying the more clarifying wash that has green exfoliating beads instead. It can be purchased for £9 from Boots.
I'm so glad I've stopped using face wipes, I've noticed a real difference in my skin and urge anyone who's using face wipes to take off their makeup to stop, your skin will thank you.

What hot cloth cleansers do you recommend?

NOTW: Seventeen Nail Polish- Ruby Gem

Sunday, 12 January 2014

Hello everyone! I have a quick NOTW post for you today. I brought a nail polish set in the January sales and wanted to try out one of the nail polishes as soon as possible. I decided to try a dark red shade seeing as it's winter.

I usually don't go for red nail polishes because I don't like how they look on my nails but I really like this deep red shade. It's perfect for winter and looks lovely on the nails.
The formula of this polish on the other hand isn't so great. After about 2 days it chipped like crazy and looked a mess. This didn't impress me considering I've brought other Seventeen polishes and the formula is great. I believe this polish is from a different range that was only available in the gift set so that may be why it doesn't perform as well as the other polishes.
I like the shade of this polish but the formula was a let down.

What nail polish are you currently wearing?

Good Things Face the Day Moisturiser Review

Wednesday, 8 January 2014

Hello everyone! Recently I ran out of my Boots Botanics moisturiser and decide I would try out something new. I was rummaging around the skincare aisle and noticed the Good Things section. I've tried a couple of face masks from them before and really liked the, so i thought I'd give their moisturisers a go. I was going to buy the one aimed at oily skin but it didn't have spf which is key when I'm picking a new moisturiser. I decide to try the Face the Day one instead.

First off the packaging is adorable and super girly. I love the colour combination of purple and white. The product comes in a 100ml tube which I like, i find it more hygienic than a pot and it allows me to have more control over how much product I dispense.
The moisturiser itself is nice. It's a light, almost watery consistency which sinks into my skin fairly quickly. It also smells delicious, it's sweet and fruity but it doesn't irritate my sensitive skin.
However I don't think I will be repurchasing this because it doesn't leave my skin with a matte or slightly satin finish. It leaves my skin with a more dewy finish. I think this moisturiser will be perfect for people with normal to dry skin. But if you have oily/combination skin like me you may not like it.
I am going to finish it up because I don't want my £7.99 to go to waste. But when it runs out I'm going to buy the Boots Botanics shine away moisturiser again because I prefer it.

Do you have any moisturiser recommendations?
Thank you for stopping by!

Top Ten Products of 2013

Sunday, 5 January 2014

Hello everyone! It's now January and it's time to share my favourites from last year. I decided to whittle it down to just ten. I was going to share 13 products but it seemed a bit gimmicky to me and I didn't have 13 favourites because I tend to stick to products that I like and know they work for me but I have a few new discoveries from 2013 that really stood out to me.

Face Products

Sleek Mirrored Pink Blush (review here)

This one is a definite favourite because I have seriously hit pan with this product, I wore this blush almost every day and the shade suits my skin in the winter and summer.

Collection Pressed Powder (review here)

As you all know by now this is my holy grail face powder, It matches my skin tone perfectly and keeps my face matte for hours!

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush (review here)

This is definately my staple brush for applying foundation. It creates a flawless finish and I don't think I can live without it now.

Maybelline 24hr Superstay Foundation (review here)

This has become my staple foundation for 2013. It has great coverage, has a semi-matte finish and lasts for a fairly long time.

NYX Taupe Blush (review here)

I got into contouring in 2013 and I have found this product to be perfect for me. It gives defintion without being too overdone. This shade is perfect if you are pale and want to start contouring.

Fragrance

Anna Sui Fairy Dance Perfume (review here)

I have wanted this fragrance for ages and when I finally got my hands on it. I wore it non-stop. I still wear it now. It's sweet, girly and fun.

Eye Makeup

Seventeen Smoulder Gel Eyeliner (review here)

I wore eyeliner religiously at the beginning of the year and then slowly stopped wearing it. Then I tried this eyeliner and have rekindled a love for the eyeliner look. It's long-lasting, highly pigmented and is purse-friendly.

Collection No Clumps Mascara (review here)

I've tried a few different mascaras this year but this one stood out to me as a great every day mascara. It gives a natural look and doesn't clump up in my eyelashes. It doesn't flake or smudge either.

Lip products

Bourjois Colour Boost Lip Crayon (review here)

The colour boost lip crayons have been a staple for me in my daily makeup routine, especially the shade peach on the beach. It adds just enough colour to bring warmth to my face all year round.

Skincare

I have used many different face masks throughout 2013 but this one has been a skin savior for me. It has helped to reduce the size of my pores and has helped to get rid of any breakouts. I will have a more in-depth review of this soon, so keep an eye out for that.

I have discovered so many new products in 2013. Hopefully I will find even more in 2014.

New Year, New Resolutions

Wednesday, 1 January 2014

Hello everyone! It's a new year and that marks a time for a fresh start to reinvent yourself (even though you can do that whenever you want). This post is a chance for me to look back on last year's resolutions and see if I actually achieved any of them and to make new ones for this year.

 Last year's resolutions:

  1. Getting toned up
I did stick to this resolution for most of the year and really enjoyed working out. However once I started university I struggled to find any time to exercise.

      2. Eating healthy and cutting back on the bad stuff

I think I had too much faith in myself with this one. However I have been eating more fruit and drinking more water, so I guess I have achieved something from this one.

       3. Reading more

Well , I think we all know I've achieved this one considering I started a reading series on my blog. Yaay for being a bookworm!

        4. Learning to drive and getting a car

This one definately didn't happen. Not many people know this but I have a fear of driving and the thought of learning to drive terrifies me. I put it off all year because I was afraid and too anxious to even contemplate getting behind the wheel of a car.

        5. Getting a job

This one has been a hit and miss (mainly a big miss) I had a seasonal job during Christmas time last year but since then job hunting has been tough. Hopefully I'll find one soon.

         6. Being more confident and positive towards myself

I have definatley gained confidence over the past year. I'm not completely confident in every situation but my positivity has definately increased.

This years resolutions

Firstly, I made way too many resolutions last year. Although they were realistic and I achieved most of them. I want to half that this year and only set myself three resolutions that I believe I can achieve.

  1. Find time to exercise and stay motivated.
  2. Learn to drive.
  3. Make fashion related posts on my blog.
Hopefully I will be able to achieve these in 2014 and I'll check back next year. I hope you all had a great New Year and started 2014 on a positive note.
