The Reading Corner: 127 Hours- Between A Rock And A Hard Place

Monday, 15 April 2013

Hello everyone! I hope you're all well. I can't wait to share my thoughts on the most recent book i have finished. This book is bloody amazing! I'm pretty late on reading this book considering it came out almost 3 years ago! Nevertheless this book has been fantastic to read.

127 Hours is a phenomenal book to read. I really wish i'd read it prior to watching the film, which was directed by Danny Boyle and starred James Franco, who did an excellent job portraying Aron.
Anyway onto the book, it's about Aron Ralston who goes out on a casual hiking and canyoneering trip and it turns into the most physically and emotionally challenging experience of his life.
This book is so inspiring and thrilling to see how the human mind and body fights to hold onto life. While reading this book i honestly thought Aron had a guardian angel or something looking out for him because he's already had more than one brush with death even before his accident in Blue John Canyon, such as almost drowning in a river and being stalked by a bear just to name a couple.
Aron is such an inspiring individual with so much courage and determination. Who to this day is still canyoneering and mountain climbing.
I highly recommend reading this book and watching the film if you haven't already.

Sunday, 14 April 2013

Hello everyone! I have a quick update for you all. As you can see i have changed the title and URL of my blog because i no longer liked the previous name, to me it was boring and personally i believe the new title is quite inventive (for me anyway). Hopefully you don't mind too much. Also due to the blog name change i now have a new blog loving link. Which will be linked below. I would really appreciate it if you could follow my new bloglovin' account.

Revision tips to help you battle the exam blues!

Monday, 8 April 2013

Hello everyone! The summer exams are only two months away and i for one am dreading it! The exam period is always a stressful and worrying time, but i have a few tips that may help you through it.

  1. Start revising early
It may seem pretty obvious but i know so many people who leave it till the night before to try and cram everything into their brain. I've done it myself in the past and it's done nothing to help me. I've been revising for my up and coming exams since february! Most of you are probably thinking "Two months is ages away, we've got plenty of time." Judging by how fast this year is going by already, those exams are soon going to creep up on you without warning. It's better to be safe than sorry.

2. Motivate yourself

I know the thought of revising sounds so tedious and boring, i used to procrastinate for hours just avoid looking through my class notes. But no one is stopping you from succeeding but yourself. You just need a good kick up the backside to get you on track. Make revision time fun, which brings me on to my next point.

3. Make it an environment suitable for you

Firstly i'd recommend removing all distractions such as your lap top or phone. Get yourself some snacks to help you through the revision and to give you energy. I'd recommend studying somewhere that's quiet like your room to get away from anyone who could distract you.

4. Find a revision technique suited to your learning style

This is a very important point because you need to revise in a way that will be productive for you and will help you retain more information effectively. I personally like to put my earphones in and listen to music while i condense all my class work on to index cards by writing down the most important information needed to get the higher grades. I enjoy associating songs or artists with a particular subject i'm revising. I find this method has had the best results for me. You could also make mind maps, posters or even just read through your notes. I know a girl who writes her own questions to quiz herself on her knowledge and understanding of her chosen subjects. At the end of the day you have to revise in a way that's best for you.

5. Don't over revise

Don't push yourself to hard to the point where you no longer take in any information, it's not healthy and it's definately not productive. When i get a headache during revision, i know that's a sign for me to stop. I also revise in intervals; half and hour of revision, then i take a fifteen minute break. Once you've reached your limit stop and come back to it the next day when you're feeling refreshed.

Finally i'd like to wish you all the best of luck with your exams. No matter what happens just try your best and never give up!

Boots Simply Sensitive Protecting Day Moisturiser Review

Friday, 5 April 2013

Hello everyone! I hope you're all well. I've been loving the Boots Simply Sensitive range and their moisturisers are a winner for me. I purchased the Protecting Day Moisturiser and i believe it is now a staple in my skincare routine!

The packaging reminds me of the Simple skincare products (coincidence?)

I love the texture of this moisturiser. It's lightweight, non-sticky (that's a word right?) and sinks in very quickly.
I have combination to oily skin and although this doesn't mattify my skin it's not a problem because i can sort that out with my makeup.
It has a very light cucumber scent which i find very refreshing. I always worry about highly scented products irritating my skin due to it being very sensitive but this is perfect, i haven't had any problems with it.
It also has an SPF of 15 which is very handy because it cuts down on adding more products into my routine.
It retails for £2.79 from Boots but is currently on offer.
If you have combination to oily skin i'd highly recommend this but if you have normal to dry skin i'd recommend giving the hydrating moisturiser a go.

Have you tried this yet?
Thankyou for stopping by!
