The Reading Corner: No Place like Home

Sunday, 17 February 2013

Hello everyone! I've finally finished the first book of this series that i will review for you. The book is called No Place like Home it is an autobiography written by Pen Farthing who, while serving in Afghanistan brings home two stray dogs Nowzad and Tali after his tour. Throughout the book you follow Pen and his wife Lisa's trials and efforts as they introduce these dogs to a western way of life. You also follow them through their process of running their own charity Nowzad Dogs which helps to rescue and re-home stray dogs in Afghanistan.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book! I'm a big lover of dogs and have always had them throughout my life even to this day (she's a staffordshire bull terrier) and found this book very touching.
It has moments that make you laugh, especially through the dogs training processes. But also makes you feel sad as well, it opened my eyes to the poverty and suffering that actually goes on ; from the removal of the dogs ears and tails to even killing them. You find out so much more than what is/has been portrayed in the news. This book sends such a positive message of determination, compassion and persistence.
I definitely want to read the prequel to this book; One Day at a Time. If you're a dog lover like me, i highly recommend this book.
Have you read this book yet?
I hope you enjoyed this post
Thankyou!

Starting a series!

Monday, 11 February 2013

Hello everyone! I've decided i'm going to start a series on my blog! I'm going to call it The Reading Corner (so inventive). Many bloggers probably have something like this on their blogs already but i thought i'd add my two cents and join in.
It's going to be a series dedicated to book reviews, I've always loved reading and as one of my New Years Resolutions was to read more, this will be a great way for me to fulfill that goal.
I've almost finished a book i would like to review and a post should be up by the end of the week. These posts wont be a monthly thing, i like to take my time reading a book, so i can give my honest opinion. Plus not every book is going to have the same number of chapters.

I hope you look forward to this series
Thankyou!

Umberto Gianni Indulgent Beauty Moisture Mask Review

Hello everyone! I don't know about you but i still haven't found the perfect deep conditioner. I received this one in a gift set for Christmas. I've been using it for just over 2 months and i'm going to share my thoughts with you.

The packaging is simple and fairly average.

This mask claims to replenish and make your hair look "well cared for". I have to say it was okay but it was nothing special. It did make my hair feel soft and tamed my frizzy locks but my hair didn't really look as great as it claims.
It smells processed and full of chemicals, which i'm not a massive fan of. It really didn't as stated on the packaging "indulge the senses".
As seen in the image below, it looks like I've hardly used it. However a little goes a long way with this product.
The texture of the mask is a mix between a cream and a souffle, i guess this strange concoction helps it stick better to your hair, which it does compared to most of the deep conditioners I've used which drip out of my hair after the first 5 minutes.

It costs £5.61 for a 200ml tub from Boots.
Although this product isn't as good as i hoped, i'm going to use it up anyway because i hate wasting products. I guess my search still continues for the perfect deep conditioner.

I hope you liked the review
Do you have any recommendations?
Thank you

Questions from Jenny

  1. Who is your favourite band/musician?
My favourite band has to be You Me At Six. I've been listening to their music for years. I love all their songs, even the  old ones. I've also been lucky enough to see them in concert and i hugged Max Helyer (i almost died and went to heaven at that moment) It was one of the best concerts I've been to.

     2. What is your biggest goal in life?

My biggest goal in life is to hopefully have a career in criminology.

     3. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I would love to live in Vancouver in Canada. The scenery and wildlife looks amazing!

      4. Where is your favourite place to shop for clothes?

I love shopping on Ebay for clothes, you can find unique pieces of clothing that are cheap.

       5. Who is your least favourite actor/actress?

I tend to forget about actors/actresses who i don't like but the girl in The Human Centipede ( i don't know her name) was terrible, her acting was horrendous, then again so was the whole film.

       6. Favourite make-up brand?

My favourite make-up brand would have to be Rimmel, i love their nail polishes and lipsticks. They've really stepped up their game over the last couple of years.

       7. List 5 items you would take with you if you were stranded on a desert island

This was a tough question to answer. I tried to think logically, i would probably take a pocket knife, water ( fresh water would probably be hard to find on a desert island), flares, i would take a mobile phone if it had a signal and clothes because it's probably going to get cold at night and i'd want to be kept warm.

        8. If you had to choose between makeup or accessories, which would you pick?

I would pick makeup because i like wearing bright clothes with bold prints, so going without accessories wouldn't bother me. I feel more confident with makeup as well.

        9. What is your Holy Grail makeup product?

Without a shadow of a doubt it has to be the Collection (i'm never going to get used to saying that) Lasting Perfection concealer. It covers everything and i can't leave the house without it.

       10. What is your favourite film ever?

I can't be limited to just one film, i have lots of favourite films and they're all my favourites for different reasons.

       11. Who is your celebrity crush?

It would have to be Johnny Depp. I don't care if he's old enough to be my dad, he is hot!

Here are my questions for my nominees, who will be listed down below

  1. What is your favourite colour?
  2. What would be your dream job?
  3. If any mythical creature could exist, which one would you pick and why?
  4. What has been a past fashion or beauty regret that makes you cringe?
  5. What is your favourite animal?
  6. What makeup item can you not leave the house without?
