My New Year's Resolutions

Monday, 31 December 2012

Hello everyone! 2013 is almost upon us and in the spirit of the New Year, i've set myself 6 resolutions to complete and stick to.

1. Getting toned up
I've never been overweight or unhealthy but i feel as if my body is not as toned as it was a few years ago. So starting next year i'm going to have a fitness plan and will stick to it. I know i will feel better in myself for getting back into shape.

2. Eating healthy and cutting back
I do eat relatively healthy but i want to incorporate more fruit into my diet. I love fruit but never seem to eat enough of it. I'm going to eat atleast 4 pieces of fruit a day. I also want to drink more water and cut back on cups of tea (i drink way too much tea). However i'm not going to deprive myself of treats like chocolate and cake because i don't believe in those fad diets. Always eat in moderation!

3. Picking up more books
I have so many books i need to read but never seem to reach for them. I've decided that once a week i will have an evening without technology (my laptop and mobile phone) and just sit and read a book. I think it will be nice to just take a break and just relax.

4. Learning to drive and getting a car
I want to be passed and on the road in my own car before i go to university. I'm planning on passing by the summer time.

5. Getting a job
I've been job-hunting all this year with no luck (stupid recession) but i'm not giving up and hopefully i will have more success in 2013 (fingers crossed).

6. Being more confident and positive towards myself
I'm generally not a very negative person. I love helping people and try my best to look on the bright side of any situation. However i need to be more positive towards myself. I tend to give myself a hard time if i do or get something wrong, which doesn't help my self-confidence. But it's something i want to work on, i want to gain more confidence as a person. I know it will take time but hopefully in doing so it will help me experience new things and meet new people.

I hope you enjoyed this post!
What are your New Year's Resolutions?

The Winterlicious Tag!

Wednesday, 19 December 2012

Hello everyone! I've seen the Winterlicious Tag going around Youtube for a while, since i don't feel confident enough to make a video for it, i've decided to make it into a blogpost instead. It was created by MacBarbie07 on Youtube. Lets move straight on to the questions!

  1. Favourite winter nail polish?
I've mentioned this polish a few times already on my blog, but i reach for it so often that it's definately my favourite nail polish this season and it's Boots 17 Fast Finish nail polish in Potion. It's just a fantastic colour! It lasts a long time and just a generally great polish.

2. Favourite winter lip product?

Although i wouldn't consider Benefit's Posie Tint as a typical winter lip colour i've been wearing it everyday. I love the natural flush of colour it gives to my lips. During the winter months my complexion tends to look quite dull but this product gives me a fresh-faced and healthy look. I love it!

3. Most worn winter clothing piece?

I haven't really got a most worn clothing piece unless you count shoes. I've been wearing my tartan creepers that i had as a birthday present recently. I love creepers! They are a staple in my wardrobe. They're so comfortable and add a touch of edge to any outfit.

4. Most worn winter accessory?

My spirithood! I've had it for almost a year now and it still looks brand new! It keeps me so warm. I get a few funny looks when i wear it but i honestly couldn't care less. It's been a saviour during the cold and windy days.

Such a cringe-worthy picture (taken a year ago) but i have the Grey Wolf Spirithood

5. Favourite winter scent/candle?

I don't buy or burn any candles. But a scent i've been loving is a perfume, it's Paul Smith Optimistic. It smells sweet and frutiy but also slightly musky (i'm terrible at describing scents). If you get a chance to smell it in the shops i'd give it a whiff.

6. Favourite winter beverage?

Every year my dad always makes me a snowball. It's advocaat and lemonade, it tastes amazing!

I found a nice image online because i don't have one of my own to show you

7. All time favourite Christmas/Holiday movie?

I couldn't pick just one so i picked three. I love Home Alone (and the second one, does that count as four now?) it never fails to make me laugh. I also love watching The Grinch, Jim Carrey is amazing in it and i loved the Doctor Seuss books as a child. My third choice would have to be Edward Scissorhands, i always watch it on christmas day without fail. I'm a huge fan of Tim Burton! It's one of those films that never gets old no matter how many times you watch it.

8. Favourite Christmas/ Holiday song?

I've always liked the song Merry Christmas Everybody by Slade. It's such a feel good song and makes me feel so festive! I also love Last Chrismas by Wham, it's a song i can't help but sing along to. Another favourite has got to be The Power of Love by Frankie Goes To Hollywood, it's amazing! But i also love the newest version of it which is sung by Gabrielle Aplin from the John Lewis advert, it's so cute!.

9. Favourite Holdiay food/treat?

I don't like the traditional christmas pudding but i always have trifle instead. It tastes so good!

10. What is your favourite Christmas decoration this year?

My snowman (well snowmom) holding a baby snowman. I've had it since i was about 5 years old. It always makes me feel festive.

11. What's at the top of your christmas list?

To start driving lessons and pass my driving test.

12. What are your plans for the holiday this year?

Spending the day and afternoon with my family and visiting my nan. I'll also spend the evening with my boyfriend.

I hope you enjoyed this post!
I tag all of you to do it, if you want to
Thankyou!
xx

Collection (2000) Pressed Powder Review

Sunday, 16 December 2012

Hello everyone! I have a review for you today on a product that i believe will now become a staple product in my makeup collection!
I've been using the Rimmel Stay Matte powder for a while but recently i've found it to be slightly too orange for my skin. However i've solved the problem and i'm delighted to share my discovery with you.
I discovered the Collection (it feels strange without the 2000 at the end) pressed powder on a whim and i haven't reached for my rimmel powder since.

The packaging is pretty standard with a transparent lid. Although i haven't had an incident yet with this smashing (touch wood) i wouldn't say the packaging is very sturdy but at £1.99 it's not too bad.

I have the shade ivory, which is a perfect match for my skin tone. The consistancy of this product is slightly chalky but once it has settled on to the skin it looks perfectly fine. I'm very pleased with the quality of this product and will definately be using it for many more months to come.
If you have the complexion of a phantom (like me) and you're looking for a powder on a budget, i highly recommended trying this out.

I hope you enjoyed the review!
Thankyou!

Top 5 Autumn and Winter Nail Polishes

Friday, 7 December 2012

Hello everyone! I hope you're all well. Sorry for my lack of posting but i've been in revision mode preparing for my A-Level exams. Anyway i'm sharing with you today my top 5 nail polishes that i'm always drawn to around the colder months.

L-R: Fearne Cotton nail polish- 1, Fearne Cotton nail polish- 3, La Femme Beauty nail polish- Grey Cream, Rimmel lasting finish nail polish- Block Your Green, 17 nail polish- Potion

My first favourite is a silver nail polish from the Fearne Cotton makeup range. It's a silver nail polish with silver sparkles. This polish makes me feel so festive! It reminds me of christmas everytime i wear it. Although it looks sparkly in the bottle, the glitter doesn't show up too much on the nails. I brought this in a set along with the red nail polish (seen above) so unfortunately i don't know the individual price of the polish but i'm sure they can be found on ebay. The longevity of this polish is great! It lasts for about 3 weeks before it starts to chip. It dries very quickly as well which is a bonus because i have no patience when it comes to painting my nails.

The second polish is also another Fearne Cotton nail polish, it's a dark red with red shimmer. I usually pair this polish along side the silver one for shimmer overload! I believe red nails are great all year round but the added shimmer just makes the colour a bit more interesting. This polish lasts for about 2 weeks before chipping and dries fairly quickly.

My third choice is La Femme Beauty nail polish in Grey Cream, i always wear atleast one neutral colour during the colder months and i tend to lean towards greys and taupes. The name says it all, it's literally a light grey nail polish! This polish dries very quickly and lasts for over 2 weeks maybe 3 before it starts to chip. It was given to me by a friend, so i don't know how much it costs but after browsing on ebay i found it for a bargain price of £0.99 plus £0.75 P+P.

Number 4 on my list is a gorgeous green nail polish from Rimmel. The real colour is not translating properly on the image but it is a dark green. This colour is one of my favourites in my nail polish collection, it lasts fairly well and dries fairly quickly too. It costs £2.99 from Boots. I also mentioned this polish in my October Favourites, if you would like some extra information you can check that post out if you want.

Finally my last choice is an amazing polish from 17. It's a pearlescent green/gold colour that reminds me of insect scales. It costs £2.00 at the moment in Boots but it is usually £2.99. This polish lasts about 3 weeks before it starts to chip. I  mentioned this polish in my October Favourites aswell.

Let me know what your favourite autumn/winter nail polishes are. I hope you enjoyed the post even though i said/wrote polish way too much (sorry about that)
Thankyou

Oh My Geekness Jewellery Review

Sunday, 25 November 2012

Hello everyone! I have a review for you today on a piece of jewellery that makes me smile everytime i wear it.
Those who know me very well will know how much i love Zelda and Nintendo (the nintendo 64 to be exact). My favourite Zelda game has to be The Ocarina of Time! I've been searching for an ocarina necklace for a very long time and i finally stumbled upon this beautiful creation on an Etsy store called Oh My Geekness.

The detailing and hardwork that went into making this necklace definately shines through.
When i saw this necklace i squealed with excitement (i'm not kidding, i really did squeal). As soon as i had enough money i brought it without any hesitation.
Firstly i would like to thank Jess for her outstanding customer service! She was polite, helpful and always kept me up to date with the progress of my item, from when it was made, to when it was shipped and likely to arrive.

When it arrived it was packaged in a cute little, white box with the shop logo printed on the front. The necklace was cushioned safely inside with a thankyou note aswell, which i thought was a great added touch to my shopping experience.

I honestly adore this necklace! It brings back so many memories of when i was a child sitting cross-legged on the floor, frantically pressing buttons on the controller, battling monsters and playing Zelda's lullaby on my ocarina (if only i could do that with my necklace). This necklace holds a nostalgic purpose as well as being an accessory.
When i brought the necklace it cost me $16 but is now roughly $18 plus $5.85 for shipping which i believe is a very reasonable price because it's handmade, looks amazing and you definately get your money's worth.
I would highly recommend having a look through her store. All her items are handmade and if you're a gaming geek like me you'll be spoilt for choice!
I hope you enjoyed the review!
Let me know if you liked or purchased anything from the shop.
Thankyou!

Soap and Glory Hand Food hand cream Review

Sunday, 18 November 2012

Hello everyone! I'm sorry i haven't made a post in a while but i've recently been bombarded with school work and didn't want to fall behind, but now i'm back on track. But anyway lets move right on to the review!
During the autumn and winter i suffer from severely dry hands. I've used a lot of hand creams but never this one, so i thought i would give it a go.

Firstly i love the packaging! It's girly, cute and stylishly simple. The scent of this hand cream is also amazing! It's sweet and slightly fruity. If you don't like sweet smells you may find it sickly.
This product claims to be a "non-greasy hydrating hand cream", it was hydrating and absorbed fairly quickly but i did find it greasy and it left a slight residue, but it has helped to get rid of the dry patches on my hands.

When i apply this hand cream i usually wear cotton gloves on my hands, i find this helps the cream to absorb faster and stops me from getting hand cream everywhere!
During the winter i don't think this hand cream will be hydrating enough for me but for now it works fine.
I hope you enjoyed the review! If you have any recommendations please leave them as a comment below. Thankyou! :)

October Favourites!

Thursday, 1 November 2012

Hello everyone! I hope you've all had a great Halloween and don't feel too sick from eating sweets. October is over so i thought i would share some of my favourite products that i've been using religiously for the past month.

L-R: Baviphat BB cream,Good Things Bright Eyes eye cream, Kate Moss Matte Lipstick for Rimmel-111, Revlon Matte Lipstick-010 Wine Not, 17 Fast Finish Nail Polish- Potion, Rimmel Lasting Finish Nail Polish- 703 Pear Drop, Rimmel Lasting Finish Nail Polish- 700 Block Your Green

Baviphat BB cream- Ebay-£3.50 (roughly)

Asian BB creams are known for being the best on the market and this one is no exception! This product has been a staple in my daily makeup routine. It matches my pale skin perfectly, so perfect that you can't even tell i've put it on! It has quite a strong smell but it goes away pretty quickly. The formula is light, yet it gives reasonable coverage. It's specifically for oily skin, which is perfect for me. If you're looking for a good BB cream i'd recommend giving this one a go. I purchased mine off Ebay because it's not available in the UK.

The packaging is adorable and eyecatching!

Baviphat BB cream                                                 BB cream blended

Good Things Bright Eyes eye cream

I love this eye cream! It feels so light weight and a little goes a long way with this product. I have definately noticed a reduction in the appearance of my dark circles. From Boots it costs £5.99. This is definately a staple for me! Also it is free from parabens, mineral oils and sodium laureth sulphate, so it's perfect for vegetarians and vegans.

Kate Moss Matte Lipstick for Rimmel and Revlon Matte Lipstick

I've been loving wearing either a red or dark berry lip for autumn and these two have been my go to lipsticks to achieve my chosen looks.
I've been dying to try the Kate Moss Matte lipsticks for Rimmel and i didn't have a red lipstick in my collection so i decided to pick up the shade 111. I love this lipstick! The formula is amazing, it glides on effortlessly and stays on for a long time. It is slightly drying but applying a lipbalm beforehand sorts that out. It costs £5.49 from Boots.

I love the dark berry lip trend for autumn and Revlon's Matte Lipstick in Wine Not is the perfect shade. I love this lipstick because it can add an edgey feel to any outfit and the colour is just gorgeous. It does go on qutie patchy at first but after blotting and reapplying a couple of times the problem is sorted. I'd definately recommend this lipstick because it compliments any skin tone. Unfortunately this shade isn't available in the UK so i brought mine off Ebay for about £4.00 (roughly).

L-R: Kate Moss Matte Lipstick-111, Revlon Matte Lipstick- Wine Not

Rimmel Lasting Finish Nail Polishes

These have been my favourite colours to combine together when painting my nails for this month. I've been wearing Pear Drop on my index fingers, then put Block Your Green onto the rest of my nails. I love the colour green and these are definately new additions to my favourite nail polishes. They cost £2.99 from Boots.

Block Your Green. The colour is not showing up true on this image but it is a dark green colour.

Pear Drop

17 Fast Finish Nail Polish- Potion

I adore the colour of this polish! If i'm not wearing my Rimmel nail polishes i'm wearing this one. It reminds me of the scales on a beetle. It's such an unusual colour and although it looks pearlescent in the bottle, on the nails it looks like a green-gold colour which i believe is perfect for autumn. It costs £2.99 from Boots. It doesn't dry in 60 seconds like it claims but it does last a heck of a long time on the nails before it starts to chip.

I hope you've all enjoyed this post! What have been your october favourites?

James Brown London Photo Fabulous Intensive Treatment- Review

Tuesday, 30 October 2012

Hello everyone! I hope you're all enjoying the half term holidays (i know i am). After running out of my usual deep conditioner, i thought i would try something different and change up my hair care routine up a bit. I purchased the James Brown London Photo Fabulous Intensive Treatment.

Sadly, i found this product very disappointing! It did absolutely nothing for my hair, except making it feel greasy and weighed-down.
I also noticed that the product had small particles of glitter mixed in it, which could be seen when the product is rubbed in your hands and hair. I guess that's to make your hair (as described on the packaging) "deliciously glossy". It certainly didn't achieve that effect for me.

The consistancy of the product is not very pleasant. It feels greasy and i found it made my hair feel heavy and full of product even if i used a small amount. It didn't de-tangle my hair, if anything it made it worse!
The products smell was okay but it didn't linger on my hair at all, which i thought was a let down.
For a 150ml tube it costs £8.49, which in all honesty is a complete rip off for what you get.
I wont be repurchasing this product again in the future! I'll just stick to the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle next time.

Hope you all enjoyed the review. If you have any other suggestions for deep conditioners please leave them in a comment below. Thankyou!

The Blogger Tag

Friday, 26 October 2012

Hello everyone! I have a very different post today, i've been tagged by the wonderful Romy from BeautyholicRomy to do the Blogger Tag. I hope you enjoy!
(i might slip in a few random images just so it doesn't look so plain)

Firstly here are the rules:

  1. Each person tagged must post 11 random facts about themselves.
  2. They must answer the 11 questions posted by the previous blogger.
  3. They must create 11 more questions to ask their tagged bloggers.
  4. They must tag 11 bloggers with less than 200 followers.
  5. The bloggers must be told.
  6. No tag backs.
11 random facts about myself

I hate roast dinners, they make me feel sick.
I'm fascinated by serial killers and crime.
I want to study criminology at university.
Supernatural is my favourite tv series!
I hate people touching my belly button.
I believe in faeries.
I'm terrified of spiders D;
I always watch Edward Scissorhands on christmas day.
I love Studio Ghibli films.
I hate the sound of people chewing their food.
The Nintendo 64 is my favourite game console ever!

Romy's questions for me

Do you exercise or play sports at all?

I exercise once a week on a cross-trainer and also do sit ups to tone my stomach. I used to be in a cross-country and atheletics club in school but i don't play or take part in any sports now.

What do you normally drink on a night out?

I don't really drink many alcoholic drinks when i go out, i usually just drink coke. But if i am drinking something alcoholic it's usually a vodka and redbull.

What is your tried and true beauty product?

For me it's definately the collection (2000) lasting perfection concealer. It covers everything from dark circles to blemishes. If this product stops getting made i'll have no clue what to do! It's just so amazing!

What has been your favourite holiday destination and why?

My favourite holiday destination has got to be Floridia, it was such an amazing holiday! There was so much to do and see. My favourite part was swimming with manatees, they're so cute! :) I don't think any holiday since has topped it...yet.

Clowns, fun or creepy?

I've never found clowns creepy, even the ones from Killer Clowns form Outerspace! I found them fun when i was younger but now i'm not too fussed.

Petting zoo or safari ride?

Last time i went on a safari ride an elephant tried to charge into the car i was in. So for reasons of safety i'd pick a petting zoo, plus you get to stroke cute, fuzzy animals!

If you could only buy from one drugstore makeup brand for the rest of your life, which would it be and why?

I would choose Revlon because their colourstay foundation is amazing! I love their range of lipsticks and it offers the best quality for drugstore makeup, in my opinion.

Have you ever found a pair of high heels that were actually comfortable and if so what make were they?

Unfortunately so far i haven't! But i'm still searching. Maybe one day i'll get lucky!

What's your favourite Ben & Jerry's flavour?

This is an easy one, Half Baked. It just tastes so good! ( i wish i had some now)

Rollercoasters, yay or nay?

Nay, they terrify me!

If you could meet one person dead or alive who would it be?

This was a hard choice, but it would have to be Vincent Price. I think he was such an amazing actor and i've always wanted to meet him after watching House on Haunted Hill.

The bloggers i have tagged:

Style It With Me
Call Me Con Boy
Glitteralittle
Penny Favourites
Me and my Makeup
Beautee Beauty
Thrift O'clock
Lust Like Loathe
Shannon Woodfield
Dixieplumpixie
Anna's Polish Addiction

(I told you there would be random pictures)

Now here are my questions for you!
  1. What are your three biggest pet peeves?
  2. Chocolate or peanut MnM's?
  3. If you could only wear one nail polish brand for the rest of your life, which one would it be and why?
  4. What's your staple clothing item that always makes you feel confident whenever you wear it?
  5. Winter or summer?
  6. What's your favourite childhood film?
  7. What song always gets you on the dancefloor?
  8. Tea or coffee?
  9. If you could only shop in one highstreet store for clothing for the rest of your life, which shop would it be and why?
  10. Heels or flats?
  11. Which person has inspired you the most throughout your life?

Let me know if you do the tag and have fun!

Boots Essentials Cucumber Eye Make-up Remover Gel- Review

Hello everyone! I've got a bargain busting review for you all. Like many of us out there, i hate having to scrub ruthlessly at my eyes just to get my makeup off. But after wandering around the skincare isle in Boots i thought i'd try out some of their own products and ended up picking the cucumber eye make-up remover gel.

Simple and reasonably sized packaging. However the writing does rub off easily.

I've been using this product for about 2 months and it works amazingly well! It feels soothing and refreshing on the eyes (well, eyelids). It removes every trace of makeup (even waterproof mascara) after just a few swipes and my eyes feel pleasantly cool afterwards.
The scent is light and hardly noticeable. The consistancy of this product is light and slightly more liquified for a gel but i don't mind because a little goes a long way with this product.
For a 150ml bottle it costs £1.42. So if you don't fancy breaking the bank but want a good eye makeup remover, why not give this one a go.

Herbal Essences Beautiful Ends- Split End Protection Cream Review

Sunday, 21 October 2012

Hello everyone! I'm back with another post and this time it's about hair, damaged hair to be more specific. Over the years i've subjected my hair to a lot rough and tumble from using hair straightners, curling irons and a whole lot of hair dye!
I've needed a good leave in conditioner for a while but everyone i've tried has left my hair feeling greasy and weighed- down. But i've found a solution to my problems. I've been using the Herbal Essences Split End Protection cream for over a month now and i'm loving the affect it has on my hair.
The packaging is sleek, simple yet eye-catching.

First of all this cream smells amazing! It reminds me of strawberry icecream. The smell also lingers in your hair for most of the day which i love and i never had that with previous leave in treatments.
I apply the cream to my hair after i've washed it while it's still damp but i also apply it to my hair during the day if i feel it needs reviving. It makes my hair feel so soft! It also tames frizz and makes my hair look glossy. One pump is all i need to cover the midlengths and ends of my hair. My hair doesn't feel greasy at all, even when applied to dry hair.

The cream is lightweight, absorbs quickly into the hair and doesn't leave a horrible greasy residue.
In Boots it retails for £4.79 for a 150ml bottle, it's definately worth the price and i'm probably going to get atleast another 2-3 months use out of it.
I'd recommend this product to anyone who uses alot of heat on their hair or to anyone who feels their hair just needs a pick me up.
If you have any other leave in treatments to recommend please let me know. Thankyou :)

Natural Collection Pink Mallow Lipstick Review

Friday, 19 October 2012

Hello everyone! I've took the plunge and decided i would try out one of the Natural Collection lipsticks. When shopping in Boots i'm never one to have a mooch in the Natural Collection section, but after hearing so many nice things about their lipsticks i thought i would give one a go! After completely covering my hand in swatches i decided upon Pink Mallow.

This is a lovely cool-toned, nude pink colour, that is perfect for everyday wear.
Swatches will be below.

Bare lips
Wearing Pink Mallow

To me this lipstick is a "my lips but better" shade! Even though it's said to be a moisture shine lipstick, i find the finish is more satin which i personally prefer. It applies effortlessly and although it isn't drying i would recommend applying a lip balm beforehand because it doesn't offer any moisturising qualities. Also the longevity of this lipstick isn't amazing, you do have to reapply evey 2-3 hours but at a bargain busting £1.99 it's very pigmented and gives a great finish.
The packaging of this product is my only concern. When i picked up the lipstick from the shelf the lipstick felt very loose in the tube and i could hear it rattling in the tube. This may have just been the one i picked, but the lipstick hasn't broken so it can't be too bad ahaha!
I would recommend this lipstick to anyone whether you're on a budget or not.
